Sports Injuries

You don’t need to be doing a sport to get a sports injury, they can result from any physical activity. They can affect many different parts of the body and just about any tissue in the body too, including muscles, tendons, bones or ligaments. A few of the most common injuries include runners knee, hamstring strain, groin strain, shin splints, Achilles tendonitis and too many more to list here!

Sports injuries also do not have to be the result of an accident, but can often be the result of poor training techniques, lack of recovery time between training sessions or poor posture. In addition you may feel perfectly well whilst training and pain only develops a few hours later. Finally, if you already have some inflexibility or weakness in particular muscles and joints it is more likely that you will suffer from an injury or injury from mechanical compensation, for example a golfer that has limited hip rotation will be more likely to suffer from back pain due to compensation.

Often those doing sports they love will put up with a few niggles and not do anything about them, however as you progress with your sport these are likely to become more significant such that you can no longer carry on. If it far better to get these seem to early to help your healthy performance.

OUR APPROACH

A full clinical and orthopaedic examination helps identify the tissues you have injured but also anything that may have contributed to the injury. Once the injured tissue is established we will explain it to you in a way you can understand. We will also let you know how we can help and whether we need to make any referrals.

Often, depending on the cause, treatment can start immediately to help relieve your pain and usually includes a combination of soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, stretching, manipulation and acupuncture to help improve circulation and movement assisting recovery. However please be assured that you are able to choose if you would prefer not to have any particular treatment.

You will also be provided a wealth of advice including exercises and lifestyle advice. In addition, we can also do an ergonomic assessment to ensure your working environment does not contribute to your pain.
